HOW IT WORKS - Frequently Asked Questions:

Have a question about our trips? We've tried to answer our most frequently asked questions below. If you have other questions, please send them to us at info@AfricanDreamTravel.com or give us a call at (646) 391-6759. Questions by email will be answered within the next two business days.

b

How far in advance should I book my trip?

We recommend booking at least three months in advance.

b

What is the average group size for a South African tour?

Our groups generally range in size from 2 to 15 guests.

b

Can I bring my kids?

Sure. We can accommodate guests of any age, and can even arrange for experienced childcare during certain activities or late dinners if you'd like.

b

Will I be on a tour bus with strangers?

Nope. We specialize in private groups. This means that if you and four of your friends book a trip, the five of you will travel through the country as you please - just the five of you (along with one local guide). However, you can also choose to join one of our scheduled group trips, where we match up a small group of travelers (4 to 15 people) for a customized adventure.

b

How do I book a trip?

It's easy. You fill out a short interest survey, and within two business days we'll send a suggested personalized itinerary (along with a price quote) that suits your needs. This is followed up by a phone call, and once we've worked with you to make sure we've got the package tailored just the way you like it, we'll send over our standard contract, which we'll ask you to sign and return with 1/3 of your trip price as a deposit. (Fifty percent of the deposit is refundable up until 3 months before your trip start date.)

b

What does my trip price include?

Trip prices are quoted per person, and include all accommodation, scheduled activities, ground travel within South Africa, a local guide/driver, maid service at most locations and daily hot breakfasts. In addition, 3 meals per day are provided free of charge during any stay at our private lodge, Bospoort. (Some packages also include local flights.)

b

What trip arrangements do I need to make myself?

The only arrangements our customers need to make are the international flights to and from South Africa and their individual travel insurance. We'll handle the rest.

b

What happens when I get to South Africa?

Upon arrival in South Africa, you will be met at the airport by your personal guide who will help with your luggage and drive you to your first accommodations. After that, it's on with your flexible planned itinerary - you'll have freedom to shake off your worries and enjoy a not-TOO-structured vacation, but we'll be with you every step of the way to guide you to the top destinations, ensure your activities are in order, handle any weather-related changes, point you towards the finest food, etc.

b

Are you an American travel agent that books trips through a separate travel company in South Africa?

No way. We are a family-run business, started by a South African that moved to America as an adult. Our family and contacts on both sides of "the pond" enable us to provide the most thorough customer service and personal attention possible during the planning and execution of each African Dream Travel vacation. We manage our company from both countries (as well as an office in London) and handle all aspects of your trip personally.

b

Will our host/guide go with us everywhere?

Well, yes and no. Your personal host will meet you at the airport; travel with you to each destination; and will be available at all times to set you up with activities, handle your dining arrangements, translate your accent to the locals, and so on. He can hang out with your group all day if you'd like, but otherwise he will be a short phone call away to answer any questions and give advice.

b

Can we do a trip without a guide?

Sure. Give us a call to chat about our self-drive options.

b

Is everything we do planned out ahead of time?

We can set your schedule down to the minute, but we'd rather leave a bit of room for you to explore. We'll plan out your route, accommodations, special activities and time-frame, but we're pretty laid back. If you see a restaurant or activity you'd like to try, or if you want to throw your plans out the window and lie in the sand all day, that's fine by us.

b

Does my group have to do everything together?

Whether or not you'll need to stick with the group for any certain activity depends on the locale and transportation options. As long as there are no logistical problems, you can choose to do (or not do) whatever you please. Groups of six or more may have two drivers, making it possible to even vary the route traveled by each of the two vehicles.

b

How can I communicate with people back home?

Email is the cheapest and fastest way to communicate while traveling in South Africa. Internet cafes are very popular and easy to find in all major cities. Telephone, fax and email are available in most areas that we travel. Our guides can offer assistance to passengers wishing to purchase an international pre-paid phone card on the trip. (Please note: Some of our trips do travel to more remote areas where cellular reception is spotty and email is unavailable. Please let us know if you have special communication needs, so that we can properly accommodate you.)

b

Will my cell phone work there?

You'll have to discuss that with your service provider. Some do, some don't. If yours does not have international capabilities, we can help set you up with a local pay-as-you-go plan and arrange a temporary phone for your group.

b

What happens if I ask for a free sample itinerary?

If you fill out the interest survey, you'll receive a free personalized itinerary by mail or email, along with an African Dream Travel booklet full of photos and info on the places you'd stay during your potential vacation.

b

If I sign up for a free sample itinerary, will you bug me all the time or sell my information?

Don't worry - spamming is absolutely not our style, and we will NEVER share your personal information with any other party. You will be given the option to sign up to receive occasional (about once a month) updates on our specials and what's going on in South Africa. (Of course, you can unsubscribe from these updates at any time.)
