Day 1 - (18 hour flight)
Day 2 -
Meet your guide and hosts at the airport and be transported to a first class Safari Lodge (to be decided) just outside of the city for a bit of relaxation after the long flight.
Day 3 -
Drive to the Free State and book into the Protea Hotel (see page 7).
Spend the day exploring the abundant art galleries, quaint sidewalk cafes and magnificent landscapes.
Day 4 -
Visit two current M.A.C. schools; assist in preparing and serving lunch to local impoverished children; interview school administrators and students.
Receive a briefing on local issues from Save the Children administrators.
Day 5 -
Visit another M.A.C. project school; interview school administrators and students.
Afternoon picnic in the waving grasses of the Golden Gate National Park.
Learn about the Bushmen and Basotho people (discover ancient cave paintings and cultural villages).
Day 6 -
Scenic drive into the Drakensberg (also known as the “Dragon Mountains”), arriving at the Champagne Castle Resort. Relax and enjoy the comforts and magestic views.
Learn about the rich cultrual and geological history of South Africa, and of this area in particular.
Hiking and horseback tours optional.
Day 7 -
Drive towards the Natal Midlands, stopping by the town of Howick with its beautiful waterfall, native craft market and interesting local inhabitants.
Enter the Woza Moya area and visit the Play Therapy Center.
Day 9 -
Breakfast in the veldt before driving to the town of Durban. Those opting for the 10-day trip will fly to Johannesburg and then back to the US.
